Seville map and area information

Seville, one of Spain's most exciting cities, is situated on the Guadalquivir River in the lush Southern region of Andalucía. With its warm climate all year round and notably hot summers, Seville is always pleasant to visit; but particularly vivid in Spring and during the city's festivals.

True Spanish spirit and remarkable beauty give Seville its unique character in Spain.

Rich in Moorish architecture and Catholic tradition, Seville is a stunning religious relic in Spain and historically interesting to visit, with the largest gothic cathedral in the world and a feast of colourful activity during the city's Semana Santa celebrations.

Having benefited from its trading port, which was the hub of Spain's commercial activity in the 16th and 17th centuries, Seville has a wealth of fine palaces and plazas to be enjoyed.

Seville has strong Spanish values, with an array of Bullfighting arenas, the most famous of Spain's passionate flamenco and also gastronomy favourites; paella and sangría.

Offering you a real taste of old-world Spain; the winding streets and flower-filled plazas around Santa Cruz, Triana and La Macarena in the heart of the city, are bursting with little tapas bars, craft stores, flamenco venues and vivacious spirit, creating the perfect setting for your Spanish trip.

Seville also has its own foothold in sports tourism. Golf lovers come to Seville for its five golf courses, with some of the most beautiful scenery in Spain.

Football fanatics enjoy a trip to Seville's Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, which has its own unique legend, in that the Spanish team have never lost a game here.

With beautiful parks, excellent shopping, culture and La Isla Mágica, a giant theme park, Seville is equally great for a family holiday as it is for a city break.

Seville, culture corners

Aside from Seville's many popular plazas and pavillions, the city has some of its own interesting cultural must-see's.

For city views, visit the Giralda, once belonging to a mosque, it is now the cathedral's tower and the city's landmark.

Another staple monument left by the Moors is the Torre de Oro, a tower situated on the river's edge. Its name comes from the golden tiles which originally covered its walls.

A trip to Seville is not complete without the bullfight museum and the famous Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza, an 18th century arena with expos on Spain's most contraversial past-time.

Once a 16th century stock exchange, the beautiful Archivo de Indias building is now an impressive archive for all documents pertaining to the discovery of the Americas.

Seville's fresh food markets are on every day, but be sure to check out the antique and fleamarkets of Los Hippies in Plaza Magdalena and Calle Rioja.

Operating from Thursday to Sunday, these markets are great for bartering and best visited in the morning.

Seville for the Arts

Of course, Seville is famous for flamenco dancing and the Museo del Baile Flamenco is a great warm-up. Its dance workshops and exhibitions, set in an ambient 18th century building, cover the history and ideas behind flamenco.

For the full flamenco experience, there are several locations around the city.

Most notably, the Tablao Flamenco, set in a 17th century restaurant in El Arenal, or the Casa Carmen in Triana.

Seville fiesta

Seville is recognised for its Semana Santa, or Holy Week over Easter, wherein the city is transformed with fascinating religious parades, throngs of people and whole families getting together in the city's bars and meeting points. This has been Seville's most important celebration for centuries.

Similarly in the springtime, Seville's Fería de Abril takes place. Traditional and typically romantic, casetas for socialising are set up all over the city. You can expect to see horse parades, Andalusian shows and flamenco dancing until the early hours of the morning.
